Cher Ndour has reflected on his path from Atalanta to Benfica and PSG, insisting, ‘I never regret the choices I make.’ The 21-year-old Italian midfielder is set to start his second full season with Fiorentina after making 47 appearances last term, with seven goals and three assists.

He spent seven years in Atalanta’s academy and later left Benfica on a free to join PSG. The midfielder was speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘By nature I tend to stagnate, I need stimulation. Benfica work well with young players, and I accepted also thanks to my parents who supported me. The first months were difficult, the Covid-19 pandemic meant we did everything by video call.’

‘At that time, staying at Atalanta was the obvious thing, I had joined the academy at 10. I was too young to move into a boarding school.’

‘Later, I beat Juventus on penalties in the Youth League semi-final with Benfica and, this year, I scored in Turin, my greatest joy along with the goal against Inter, perhaps a little more because of the historic rivalry between the fans.’
