Chiquinho Conde urges Sporting to consider sale of £51m Sunderland target Geny Catamo | OneFootball

Mozambique head coach Chiquinho Conde has urged Sporting to consider selling Sunderland target Geny Catamo this summer.

Sunderland have held talks over a possible move and rate the 25-year-old, whose release clause is €60million, about £51million. Sporting consider him important and are reluctant to sanction departures unless clauses are met.

"He [Catamo] sees many of his colleagues moving to other leagues with financial advantages. A footballer's career doesn't last forever, and he also wants to seize this moment." He was speaking to Radio Antena 1.

"This ends up messing with your subconscious and, honestly, I think that Sporting, sooner or later, will have to let him go, provided the proposal is also good for the club. I imagine he's going through a period of anxiety."

"Geny has already given so much, so much to Sporting, and I think this is the ideal moment to take the next step. As a national team coach, I would also be pleased, because I would find an even more motivated player, and the national team would benefit sportingly from that change."

Catamo signed for Sporting in 2019 and has made 137 senior appearances. He has 15 goals in 42 caps for Mozambique.
