The Blues brushed the six-time reigning WSL champions aside with a devastating display of attacking football, underpinned by a hat-trick from Kerolin.

Further strikes from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Vivianne Miedema set the seal on the success, as City’s remarkable run of form in the WSL gathered further momentum.

Below is a quick rundown of some key milestones from the triumph to emphasise its significance…

Winning Run

City have now won our last 13 WSL matches in a row, a run stretching back to September 2025.

In doing so, Andrée Jeglertz has now set the longest winning sequence in a debut season in WSL history, to add to his record three successive WSL Manager of the Month awards.

The Blues are rapidly approaching both our own and the WSL’s record for wins in a row (14), which we share with Arsenal.

Kerolin’s magic

In a performance of superlatives from City, Kerolin’s individual display rightfully took the plaudits.

The Brazilian’s first hat-trick for the Club was also the first time in WSL history that someone has scored three against the reigning champions, taking her tally to ten goal involvements in just eight appearances this season in all competitions

She also tops the charts for goal involvements per minute in the WSL for 2025/26, either finding the net or grabbing an assist on average every 42 minutes from her 382 played so far in the league.

The opposition

You just have to look at the visitors’ impressive away form ahead of kick-off to further emphasise the nature of City’s victory.

Chelsea came into the tie with the WSL’s best defensive record this season but, having conceded only eight before kick-off, shipped five in 90 minutes at the Etihad.

The reigning WSL champions had also gone unbeaten in their last 19 away league matches, a run stretching back almost two years.

Double Dutch

Netherlands internationals Kerstin Casparij and Vivianne Miedema combined for City’s fifth and final goal at the Etihad as their fine individual campaigns continued apace.

Casparij leads the way for assists in the WSL this season (6), while her overall goal involvements are more than double that of any other defender in the top flight.

Miedema, meanwhile, has created 28 goalscoring chances this season which can only be bettered by Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey and London City Lionesses’ Kosovare Asllani.

Only the WSL’s leading scorer – Bunny Shaw – also has more goal involvements this season than the Dutch international’s six WSL strikes and five assists.
