Free agent Josh Onomah is not on the radar of Bolton Wanderers, nor is he on trial at the club, as reported by The Bolton News.
Alan Nixon on his Patreon account, that the Trotters were interested in signing Onomah this month, but that has now been denied.
It is unclear how busy Bolton plan to be this month, as they were a side that made several additions during the summer.
The Trotters brought in a vast number of players, as manager Ian Evatt was keen to strengthen his side after missing out on promotion last season.
The summer business has worked out nicely for the club, as they’ve been a strong force once again in League One, and they will be hoping this month can further strengthen their bid to be a Championship side next season.
As mentioned, it was reported by Alan Nixon that Bolton Wanderers were looking at a possible deal for Josh Onomah.
Onomah has been without a club since leaving Preston North End at the end of last season. The 26-year-old joined the club on a six-month deal, but the Lilywhites decided not to extend that stay.
So, the midfielder has been searching for a club ever since, and over the weekend, it looked as though Bolton could possibly be his next destination.
However, according to The Bolton News, the Trotters are looking to improve their squad this month, but they are not planning on pursuing a deal for Onomah, nor is the player on trial at the League One club.
As mentioned, Bolton have been a very consistent side this season, looking to bounce back from their play-off disappointment last season.
The Trotters were considered to be one of the favourites for promotion in this campaign, given the sides who left the league in the 2022/23 season.
So far, Evatt’s men have lived up to those expectations, as they and Portsmouth are leading the way at the top of the table.
Bolton have played a few games less than some sides in the division, so after 24 league games, they currently sit in second place on 51 points, just two behind Pompey with two games in hand and two clear of third-place Peterborough United.
The Lancashire side are next in league action on Saturday as they welcome Cheltenham Town to the Community Sheet Stadium.
It looks likely that Bolton will not be going after Onomah this month, but the club should be rethinking that approach, as he could be a very useful addition.
The midfielder has enormous experience, especially in the Championship, something that could help Bolton not just this season, but next campaign should they seal promotion.
Onomah also has huge quality on the ball, and given how he likes to play, he could be a great fit for Evatt’s side. Given he is a free agent, there is little risk in a deal like this, so Bolton could be very smart in adding this type of player to their ranks this month.
