The quake struck around 7.34 on Monday morning local time, initially measured at 6.7 before being revised to 7.4. Its depth was close to 100 kilometres and it caused significant damage in parts of the centre and west of the country.

In Bogotá, several hundred kilometres from the epicentre, the tremor prompted evacuations. Early assessments found no major structural damage in the capital.

The next few hours will be decisive in determining whether the game can proceed as normal. A key factor is the stadium’s condition, with any structural issues, security restrictions or aftershocks potentially forcing a review.

Logistical and airport operations across Colombia also bear watching after infrastructure problems in some affected cities. For now there is no official notice preventing River from travelling to Bogotá. River are monitoring developments.

As it stands, Santa Fe and River are scheduled for Wednesday at 19.30 in Colombia, 21.30 in Argentina. The return is set for Wednesday 19 August at the Monumental.
