The Community of Madrid has guaranteed Rayo Vallecano will keep playing at the Estadio de Vallecas, with the team set to return on 10 October against Athletic Bilbao after repairs. The regional culture, tourism and sport chief, Mariano de Paco, said the club would only leave if it chose to.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Rayo began the season hosting matches at Butarque in Leganés while deficiencies were fixed. An audit prompted the lifting of a precautionary suspension on the stadium’s concession a couple of weeks ago, although the order to terminate that concession from July remains in train.

Rectified issues include high and low voltage systems, fire protection, and legionella control and related equipment. The government says competition can resume yet plans a major revamp, including an increased capacity to 18,500.

The region doubts the club’s ability to meet concession obligations. While acknowledging the sporting and financial results under Raúl Martín Presa, officials argue the club should no longer manage the ground.

The extinction order awaits validation by the advisory legal commission, expected within a month and anticipated to be favourable. A new concession would then be issued, with a transitional period keeping Rayo at Vallecas until a new operator is chosen.

Even with a new operator, the Community says it has tools to ensure the team’s continuity at the ground. Stadium availability will be set in the new concession terms and will ultimately depend on agreement between the club and the operator.
