More and more signs point to João Palhinha leaving FC Bayern. After Aston Villa’s bid fell through, Newcastle United is now getting serious. The Magpies are already in talks with the Munich club—and, unlike Villa, they’re negotiating a permanent transfer.

FC Bayern is determined to sell João Palhinha this summer. Another loan deal is out of the question for club officials. This was precisely the sticking point that caused talks with Aston Villa to break down recently.

Now, Newcastle United could make significantly more concessions to the Munich club. As Sky Sports in England reports, the Magpies have intensified their interest in the 31-year-old. According to the report, talks are underway between Newcastle and FC Bayern regarding a purchase of the Portuguese international. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also reports that all parties are in discussions.

Eberl confirms ongoing negotiations

It was already clear during the Telekom Cup match against RB Leipzig that something was happening with Palhinha. Surprisingly, the midfielder was not included in Bayern’s roster for the 3-1 victory.

After the match, Eberl confirmed that the decision was related to a potential transfer and that negotiations regarding a move are underway. However, the sporting director did not name a specific interested club.

The latest reports from England suggest that Newcastle is one of the clubs Bayern is in talks with.

Palhinha himself is reportedly now also open to a move. Upon his return, the Portuguese player had initially hoped to prove himself again under Vincent Kompany. However, Munich’s plans for central midfield include Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Tom Bischof, and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye.

The main question mark remains the potential transfer fee. Bayern is said to have recently demanded between 25 and 30 million euros for Palhinha.

Following the multi-million-euro sales of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimarães, and Sandro Tonali, Newcastle has considerable financial flexibility. However, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies are willing to fully meet Munich’s demands.

At the same time, Benfica is said to have renewed its interest. This significantly improves Bayern’s position. With several suitors and Newcastle’s willingness to make a permanent transfer, hopes are growing that a permanent solution for Palhinha will be found before the end of the transfer window.
