Confirmed: Barcelona midfielder undergoes surgery on collarbone injury | OneFootball

Barcelona have done well to avoid serious injury problems during the opening weeks of the season, although the same cannot be said for one of their loan players. Marc Casado, who joined Deportivo A Coruna on the final day of the summer transfer window, is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, which is a blow for both his current and parent clubs.

Casado has made an encouraging start to life in A Coruna, and he made his second start for Deportivo in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Real Betis. However, he could only manage 34 minutes before he had to be replaced following a hard collision with Marc Roca, and right away, there were fears of a serious injury for the midfielder.

Casado landed hard on the pitch after a duel with Roca, and upon being replaced, TV cameras (via Sport) picked him up telling Deportivo’s medical staff that “it has broken”, in reference to his collarbone. After the match, head coach Antonio Hidalgo added to the fears suffering the injury, stating that “it does not look good”.

On Monday, Casado’s worst fears were confirmed when Deportivo announced that the midfielder had indeed fractured his collarbone. He has already undergone surgery, and he will now begin an extended period of recovery.

“Marc Casadó underwent surgery at the HM Modelo Hospital in A Coruña with the traumatologist Rafael Arriaza on a fracture in his right clavicle. His evolution will mark the return to competition.”

The last thing Casado needed for an injury. The move to Deportivo has been a fresh start for him, plus an opportunity to get regular playing time in La Liga, which he would not have got had he remained at Barcelona. However, he could now be ruled out until at least December, and this would be terrible news for everything involved – especially the midfielder himself.
