Confirmed: Real Madrid sign 19-year-old La Liga midfielder | OneFootball

Real Madrid have completed the signing of 19-year-old midfield talent Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander.

The newly-promoted La Liga club announced that their academy graduate has left the team to sign for Los Blancos.

“Racing Santander and Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergio Martinez,” the statement read.

“The Madrid club has committed to paying, in a single installment,  the full amount stipulated in the buyout clause of the contract that bound Real Racing Club to the player. As a result, the player from Laredo leaves the Racing squad.”

Real Madrid have paid a fee of €3 million for the teenage prospect, who made his La Liga debut this season after helping Racing win promotion to the top flight.

The Merengues had been tracking the youngster for some time now and have roped him in now, with the plan being for him to become a part of the Castilla squad while regularly training with the first team under Jose Mourinho.

Martinez also had interest from other clubs in Spain, such as FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Villarreal. Teams from Germany and England were also keen on the teenager.

However, he has opted to sign for Real Madrid, where he will play with the reserve team in the RFEF Primera Federacion.
