Real Madrid made four new signings early in the summer, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, and Denzel Dumfries, before bringing in another two players to their team after the end of the World Cup, Carlos Espi and Yan Diomande. With these six additions, Jose Mourinho has already made it clear that his squad is now complete.

However, this has not kept Los Blancos from making another signing from the market, albeit for the reserve team. As Diario AS has reported, Real Madrid have completed the signing of the young Spanish midfielder Sergio Martinez, and Racing Club have officially announced his transfer to the Merengue club in exchange for an amount slightly more than the player’s release clause of €3 million.

The youngster has signed a contract with Los Blancos till 2030, and rejected advances from other big Spanish clubs like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Villarreal, as well as from some English and Saudi clubs.

It is easy to understand why a player would reject such offers to sign for Real Madrid. However, for Martinez, it was a particularly difficult decision. This was mainly because he had already made his way to Racing Club’s first team, and thus would have played in La Liga if he even stayed at his current club, while Real Madrid were signing him for their reserve team, at least for the time being.

However, the midfielder is willing to fight to make his way to the Merengue first team. Even in his first season with the club, he will get chances to train and play under Mourinho, even though he will primarily have a reserve team number.

The operation also ended amicably between the two involved clubs, as instead of paying his €3 million release clause, Real Madrid negotiated with Racing Club and paid a sum slightly above this amount as a goodwill gesture that will help maintain excellent relations between these two entities.

Hopefully, Sergio Martinez will continue with the growth he has shown so far in his budding career, and turn out to be a success at Real Madrid.
