Joao Palhinha is still considered a candidate for a transfer out of FC Bayern. However, there are currently conflicting reports regarding a possible return to Sporting Lisbon.

FC Bayern continues to work on streamlining its roster and generating revenue in the transfer market. One of the most prominent players on the transfer list is Joao Palhinha, who no longer has a future at Säbener Straße following his loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur.

After the Spurs decided against a permanent signing, a return to Sporting Lisbon is considered an option. However, there is now confusion regarding the current status.

Conflicting reports regarding Sporting

Transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports that Sporting Lisbon is already in talks with Palhinha. According to the report, both sides are negotiating the personal terms of the contract, which would make the Portuguese international’s return to his former club more likely.

Sky, however, contradicts this account. According to the report, there are currently no negotiations between Sporting and Palhinha. It therefore remains unclear how far the deal has actually progressed.

Regardless, Sporting is still considered one of the most serious suitors now that Tottenham has dropped out of the race. For FC Bayern, selling the 30-year-old would be an important step. The Munich club no longer has plans for Palhinha and wants to both remove his salary from the payroll and generate additional transfer revenue.

However, a move to Lisbon is likely only possible if Bayern Munich is willing to compromise on the transfer fee. Sporting does not have the financial resources of top English clubs, which is why it has recently been reported that the Munich club will likely have to lower its asking price.
