Napoli were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Copenhagen, leaving their Champions League progression in the balance.

Scott McTominay put the visitors ahead with a towering header in the 39th minute, following Thomas Delaney’s early red card for a high studs challenge on Stanislav Lobotka.

McTominay’s goal was his fourth of the group stage, making him joint-top scoring Scottish player in Champions League history alongside Kenny Miller. Napoli dominated possession but struggled to convert their numerical advantage into a decisive lead.

Copenhagen kept fighting and earned a lifeline in the 72nd minute when Alessandro Buongiorno fouled Mohamed Elyounoussi in the box. Although Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved Jordan Larsson’s penalty, the rebound fell kindly for the Swedish striker to slot home and level the score.

Napoli have now won just one of their last five European away games and sit 23rd in the table, needing a win against Chelsea at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to secure a play-off spot.

Copenhagen move up to 24th, but still require a result against Barcelona in their final group game to confirm their place in February’s knockout play-offs.
