Corberan criticises Valencia’s two-day turnaround before Betis | OneFootball

Valencia face Real Betis at Mestalla soon after hosting Celta, and Carlos Corberan has condemned the turnaround as unfair. He argues Valencia will have the least rest among clubs whose opening fixture was postponed.

According to Superdeporte, several teams postponed matchday one to recover World Cup semi-finalists. Corberan said Valencia are the only top flight side playing twice with only two days between games, adding they have had 33% less recovery time and that, in August and the opening week, the situation is hard to understand.

Betis sought the postponement because Giovanni Lo Celso was on Argentina duty. Argentina reached the final, yet Lo Celso played only 60 minutes in a group match, and he is currently injured so will not feature at Mestalla.

The rescheduling also affects matchday three, with Valencia travelling to A Coruña with less rest than their rivals. Corberan did not blame Betis, saying they simply used a rule that permits postponing matchday one.

Corberan confirmed Luís Rioja trained with the group this morning and will be in the squad, with the chance of some minutes.

Justin De Haas is out, and the coach revealed his problem is more than a simple ankle sprain.

Corberan expects a demanding contest against a high quality Betis side. He wants Valencia to defend better without harming their attack, seeking a more balanced display than against Celta.
