Carlos Corberán has made club history, becoming the first Valencia head coach to win both league derbies against Levante in the same season, according to Superdeporte. Both victories came with clean sheets.
Valencia won 0-1 at Mestalla earlier in the campaign against Julián Calero’s side, Hugo Duro scoring with a bicycle kick. On Sunday they repeated the feat at the Ciutat de València, beating Luís Castro’s team 0-2 through Largie Ramazani and Umar Sadiq.
No previous Valencia manager had achieved this across the club’s century-long history. The milestone arrives during Corberán’s most testing spell since taking charge.
The city rivals have shared 17 seasons in the top flight. Until now Valencia’s best return across any of those campaigns had been a win and a draw, for instance in 2021/22 when they won 3-4 at the Ciutat then drew 1-1 at Mestalla.
Levante have never completed a league double over Valencia in a single season either. Their closest effort came in 2012/13, a 1-0 home win through Martins followed by a 2-2 draw at Mestalla, with Iborra and Barkero on target.
Across 34 top-flight derbies Valencia have 17 wins, with 11 draws and six victories for Levante. The overall goals tally stands at 59-31 in Valencia’s favour, an average of around 2.65 per game. Valencia have generally held the edge, though Levante have also enjoyed notable results, particularly at the Ciutat de València.
