Olympique Lyonnais went out of the Champions League play-off on Wednesday, losing 1-2 to Fenerbahçe, as captain Corentin Tolisso rebuked Mattéo Guendouzi for provocation and declined to dwell on post-match scuffles that continued in the Groupama Stadium tunnel.

During the warm-up Guendouzi made middle-finger gestures towards the stands, then after Fenerbahçe’s qualification he celebrated in front of the home end. Tolisso confronted him after full time.

"I just told him to go and celebrate with his team, to stay humble in victory. Leave the Lyon supporters, they are frustrated enough. That sort of thing is irresponsible. I hope he learns," Tolisso said. He told Canal+.

Tolisso said Guendouzi pointed to insults from the stands during the warm-up as his explanation. "We get insulted every weekend when we are away, we cannot react like that with that mentality," he added.

"We totally missed the first half. In the second, I think we created plenty, and Loïs Openda’s and Kaïl Boudache’s goals were narrowly disallowed. We can have regrets, we did not manage to lift the tempo or be more solid."
