Corinthians agree R$41.2m deal with Rojas, avoid transfer ban

Corinthians has reached an agreement with Paraguayan midfielder Matías Rojas to settle a financial debt of R$ 41.2 million, thereby avoiding the risk of facing a new transfer ban imposed by FIFA. The information was released by ge.globo.

After weeks of negotiations, the player agreed to waive the interest stipulated in the decisions by FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which had ruled against the club in the lawsuit filed by him. According to the agreement, Timão will make the payment in two installments—the first one this week and the second next week. To fulfill this commitment, the board will use part of the R$ 77 million prize money received for winning the Copa do Brasil.

Without this arrangement, Corinthians would be subject to a new penalty that would prevent the registration of players, since the case was closed in the final instance and the deadline for settling the debt expired in November.

Meanwhile, the club’s leadership is working to resolve another restriction in the market. The club intends to intensify negotiations with Santos Laguna of Mexico in an attempt to lift the transfer ban in effect since August, related to a debt of around R$ 30 million for the signing of defender Félix Torres.

At 30 years old, Matías Rojas is a free agent after leaving the Portland Timbers in the United States. Signed by Corinthians in mid-2023, the midfielder played 30 matches in the black-and-white jersey, did not score any goals, and left the club in February 2024.
