Corinthians have granted Jesse Lingard permission to travel to England in the coming hours to attend his grandfather’s funeral, after his passing at 87 on the 10th. According to Meu Timao, the forward is due to rejoin training on Saturday, 4 July.

Before the World Cup pause at the end of May, Lingard had already flown home to be by his grandfather’s side. He missed the 3-1 win over Grêmio on 30 May, the club’s final official match before the break.

After time with family in England and a short holiday, Lingard reported back last Friday. He returned a day after the rest of the squad due to flight logistics.

Memphis Depay is also absent. Knocked out with the Netherlands in the early hours of Tuesday at the World Cup, the No 10 will not report back to CT Dr. Joaquim Grava immediately and will be given a few days of leave following his continuous club and national-team commitments.

Corinthians have almost a month of work during the World Cup stoppage. They have confirmed a friendly with Cascavel in Paraná on 12 July at 16:00, at Olímpico Regional Jacy Miguel Scanagatta. A second friendly against Maringá is being negotiated.

Fernando Diniz’s side are scheduled to return to competitive action on the 23rd against Remo at 19:30 at the Neo Química Arena, in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
