Corinthians and Memphis Depay near agreement on two-year extension to July 2028 | OneFootball

Corinthians and Memphis Depay have moved closer to agreeing a new contract, expected to run for two further seasons to July 2028.

The 32-year-old’s current deal ends on 31 July after a post-World Cup break. The club had aimed to settle the matter, renewal or release, by Monday 27, ge.globo reports.

Talks advanced after the forward reduced his wage request, and his camp accepted to spread just over R$ 40 million owed in bonuses from the current deal. He sought a three-year term, while Corinthians preferred two.

Recent exchanges included a counterproposal from the Dutchman combining salary with joint commercial activities with the club. The package would also carry performance bonuses on lighter targets than his previous agreement.

Memphis was cleared in late May to join the Netherlands for the World Cup. After their exit on 29 June he had not yet reported back. The club initially did not expect him to return before a renewal, then revised plans and counted on him at CT Joaquim Grava after the recess.

The renewal is not blocked by current transfer bans, since it is viewed as an extension rather than a new registration under Fifa and the CNRD sanctions.

In 2026 he has featured in 14 matches with one goal and one assist, having missed over two months through injury. He did win a third trophy with the club in February, the Supercopa do Brasil after a 2-0 victory over Flamengo.

Since arriving in 2024, he has played 79 times, scoring 20 with 15 assists, and lifted the Campeonato Paulista 2025, Copa do Brasil 2025 and Supercopa do Brasil 2026. Corinthians host Athletico Paranaense on Thursday at 19:30 at Neo Química Arena after a 1-1 draw with Bahia.
