Corinthians and Memphis discuss flexible contract term in renewal talks | OneFootball

Corinthians and Memphis Depay are trying to close a contract renewal but remain split over the length of the deal.

According to Globo.com, a two-year agreement is on the table, with a third year tied to a minutes threshold.

Corinthians owe Memphis more than R$ 40 million from unpaid bonuses in a deal that runs until the 31st. Under the two-plus-one plan, failure to extend would force immediate payment of the last 12 instalments, with 24 paid during the term.

Memphis’ camp has proposed two and a half years, ending in December 2028, with the debt split across the 30 months. Length remains the main obstacle, after an initial two-year offer from Corinthians and a three-year ask from the player.

His representatives want a swift decision, but the board do not plan to address it on Sunday because of the Bahia match in the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Talks are due to resume on Monday, the deadline set by football executive Marcelo Paz for a resolution, positive or negative. A previous round rebalanced pay, cutting the fixed element and increasing variables that hinge on sporting results, which Memphis accepted.
