Corinthians and Portuguesa meet before key Paulistão clash

On the evening of this Sunday (22nd), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), Corinthians faces Portuguesa at the Canindé Stadium, in a match valid for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Paulista Championship, at the Canindé Stadium. Before the duel, the two clubs held an institutional meeting demonstrating a strengthening of ties between the clubs.

In a statement released by Corinthians, the football executive, Marcelo Paz, commented on the importance of the Alvinegro being open to new partnerships with other teams and projected the match between the teams for the state knockout stage: “I think this type of event, this type of moment, is very healthy, it shows institutional maturity. Portuguesa and Corinthians are clubs that are even geographically very close, both on their social networks and in the training centers, we are neighbors. There is a history of brilliant confrontations, with many interesting stories.”

“And Corinthians positioning itself as a partner, an open club, that talks, that dialogues, that exchanges ideas, under the leadership of President Osmar, who made a point of being present, and his presence is always an honor to all of us who make football. Above all, may tonight be a good game to watch, an enjoyable spectacle, with the fans cheering for their teams. The whole of Brazil will be watching, for sure, even because of the time, which is very attractive for those at home, so may it be a very fruitful day, and it started with this coffee, with this institutional moment, which I think serves as an example for many clubs,” he said.

The president of Corinthians, Osmar Stabile, also celebrated the meeting and the cordial relationship between the leaders of the two clubs: “It is a pleasure to meet with Portuguesa, which has always been a partner of ours, with a good relationship, as in situations with the youth teams, for example, where we use their field, they use ours, for training. I think this good relationship with all clubs is very important, especially in São Paulo, and Portuguesa is a special case. Today I am happy to be here, maintaining this closely, regardless of what happens in the game later,” he emphasized.

Alex Bourgeois, president of Portuguesa SAF, added: “We have a good relationship with Corinthians, which has become even better with the arrival of President Osmar. We are training center neighbors and we constantly help each other. Of course, on the field, each side will do everything for the classification, but off the field, this good relationship is important.”
