Corinthians and Portuguesa met on Sunday for an institutional get-together ahead of their Campeonato Paulista quarter-final at Canindé, which starts at 20:30. According to Meu Timao, the gathering was presented as a way to reinforce ties between the clubs.
Corinthians were represented by president Osmar Stabile and executive of football Marcelo Paz. Portuguesa attended with president Alex Bourgeois and vice-president of football Tadeu Oliveira Jr.
Paz said such occasions are healthy and show institutional maturity. He noted the clubs are close neighbours, including their training bases, and share a history of memorable contests.
He added that Corinthians want to be seen as open to dialogue and partnership under Stabile’s leadership, and welcomed the president’s presence. Paz hoped for an enjoyable spectacle with both sets of supporters, saying the whole of Brazil would be watching given the attractive kick-off time. He said the day began with coffee and an institutional moment he felt could set an example to others.
Stabile expressed satisfaction at meeting Portuguesa’s directors and underlined a long-standing partnership. He highlighted that several notable players have moved from Portuguesa to Corinthians and said the clubs maintain a good working relationship, including occasionally sharing pitches for youth training.
He added that maintaining cordial ties with all São Paulo clubs matters, but described Portuguesa as a special case. Regardless of what happens on the pitch, he said the clubs intend to continue their partnerships and conversations.
