Corinthians bring in former Fortaleza coach to lead under-17 women's team

Corinthians has finalized the hiring of Igor Carlos to take over the command of the under-17 women's team. The coach had been without a club since the termination of the women's football activities at Fortaleza Esporte Clube and was approved by Timão after an interview process, according to information released by Lance!.

At 46 years old, Igor, known as Igor Cearense, has been working in coaching staffs since 2014. A former player, he began his coaching career in men's football, with stints at Penarol Atlético Clube and Manaus Futebol Clube. From 2018 onwards, he dedicated himself exclusively to women's football, starting with Iranduba. Since 2020, he has been in charge of categories at Fortaleza, where he consolidated his work in the sport.

His arrival at Parque São Jorge was endorsed by the executive director of football, Marcelo Paz. A former CEO of Fortaleza, the director worked with Igor at the Ceará club and endorsed his name based on the coach's professional history, although the final decision was made by the women's department of Corinthians.

During his time at Fortaleza, Igor achieved significant results. He secured promotion to Série A1 with the main team, was twice champion of the Cearense Under-17 (2024 and 2025), won the Cearense Women's adult in 2020, 2022, and 2025, and lifted the Copa Maria Bonita in 2025. In total, he led the Tricolor in over 100 matches, between youth and professional levels, and had more than ten athletes called up for Brazilian youth national teams.

The under-17 Brabinhas are coming off a standout season. In 2025, they won the Brazilian Championship title for the category and also finished as runners-up in the Paulistão and the Development League.

Corinthians is undergoing a period of changes in its youth categories. The club has not yet announced who will take over the coordination of the women's youth after the departure of Rafa Esteves, who left the club to become the football executive at Mirassol.

Since then, the department has undergone a restructuring. According to a survey by the portal União SCCP Feminino, the nutritionist Marcela Mosconi, the physical trainer Victor Amaral, the under-15 coach Lizandra Nunes, the performance analyst Matheus Almeida, and more recently, the coach Ana Maria Zanatta, who led the under-17 team, have also left the club.
