Corinthians’ council chief Romeu Tuma Júnior has replied to MP-SP prosecutor Cássio Conserino, defending the pause to internal probes into alleged corporate card misuse and rejecting talk of a cover-up.
According to Meu Timao, the four-page letter answers criticisms, sets out fresh grounds for the suspension and says no court orders are being ignored.
He said the pause followed executive information that MP-SP had requested video of ex-president Andrés Sanchez’s testimony to the council’s Comissão de Justiça.
A hearing with ex-president Duilio Monteiro Alves had been set, and uncertainty over whether charges against him were accepted in court prompted a cautious halt to avoid any perceived disrespect to the prosecutor or judiciary.
The letter argues the executive and the council are independent, so the council cannot access cases under judicial secrecy, a separation it says is in the Lei Geral do Esporte.
It adds the suspension order set conditions for resuming cases, including lifting secrecy or the board sharing court rulings in real time, and it asked the court to adjust precautions so Andrés can defend himself before the club’s Ethics body without legal risk to members.
Tuma disputed limits on contact with Andrés, saying the ban covers in-person and remote communication by phone or video, and urged direct council and MP-SP dialogue.
The club awaits judge Marcia Mayumi Okoda Oshiro’s response to a petition, filed at Tuma’s request, seeking permission to hear the ex-presidents when required. No deadline has been set.
