Corinthians’ Conselho de Orientação, Cori, has issued a favourable opinion on renewing Memphis Depay’s contract, potentially for two more seasons, after a split vote decided by its president.

According to Meu Timao, six councillors backed the move and six opposed, with Cori president Miguel Marques e Silva casting the deciding vote in line with a board now leaning towards renewal.

The hybrid meeting at Parque São Jorge was called by club president Osmar Stabile to present figures and terms for the 32-year-old forward’s extension. Finance chief André Lavieri represented the board, which is expected to heed Cori’s guidance.

Cori is consultative and has no veto, the final decision rests with Stabile and the board. Stabile cited article 119, paragraph 4, which says transactions above 40 thousand minimum wages, a bracket that includes Depay, require prior authorisation from Cori.

Last week the club decided not to extend Depay’s deal, which ended on 31 July, citing the institution’s financial health. Talks resumed in the following days amid heavy supporter pressure, including protests at Stabile’s home. Depay later expressed disappointment with the club’s stance.

The framework is expected to stay close to recent terms, with a possible two-year agreement, reduced salary and bonuses, and a renegotiated R$ 42 million debt. Negotiations have run for almost two months. Sponsor Fatal Fans convened partners and could add R$ 10 million if other sponsors also contribute.
