On Monday, Corinthians’ Conselho Deliberativo formally paused internal proceedings into alleged misuse of the club’s corporate card during the administrations of ex-presidents Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves. According to Meu Timao, council president Romeu Tuma Júnior described the step as a precaution following the latest public hearing on statute reform.
He said the pause does not end the inquiries, it is intended to keep the Justice and Ethics commissions within judicial parameters while the club seeks formal guidance from the courts and accommodates any action by prosecutors.
Hearings and depositions are on hold to avoid any suggestion of non-compliance, though other investigative diligences and requests to the board continue. The council is waiting for authorisation to resume internal defences and next steps.
Andrés Sanchez is under precautionary measures that bar him from Parque São Jorge and from contacting club officials, while São Paulo state prosecutors have asked for similar restrictions regarding Duilio Monteiro Alves.
Tuma said the suspension covers matters linked to club cards and he listed Andrés, Duilio and Augusto among those named in the cases.
He added the decision was aligned with the executive led by Osmar Stabile, with director Pedro Soares set to petition the judiciary to clarify the commissions’ role and secure the necessary clearance. The aim is to prevent future bids to nullify acts and because the council cannot approach the courts directly.
Tuma also outlined the personal strain of legal actions aimed at him rather than the council, saying he has had to fund his own defence. He called for firmer institutional backing so the work proceeds with proper legal cover.
