Corinthians drew 1-1 with Cascavel on Sunday in a friendly played in Cascavel, with club great Carlos Gamarra watching from the stands.
The former Paraguay defender was central to the 1998 Brasileirão and 1999 Paulistão triumphs. According to Meu Timao, he was presented with a Corinthians shirt by football executive Marcelo Paz. The city of Cascavel is roughly 150 kilometres from Ciudad del Este on the Brazil border.
Before kick-off, cameras captured Gamarra embracing Fernando Diniz, his Corinthians team-mate in the late 1990s. They featured together in only six matches, returning two wins, three draws and one defeat. Around three months after Gamarra arrived, Diniz left, ending their brief spell together.
Gamarra made 80 appearances for Corinthians, recording 38 wins, 20 draws and 22 losses, and scored seven goals. He joined at the start of 1998 after leaving Benfica, and remained at Parque São Jorge until June 1999.
His final match for the club was the 1999 Paulistão final, won against Palmeiras, the side he would later represent in 2005.
