Corinthians’ Ethics Committee has opened a disciplinary case that could lead to the expulsion of lifetime councillor and former football director Rubens Gomes, known as Rubão. According to Meu Timao, the move follows a representation filed on Tuesday by a group of members.

The request cites Article 28, item E, of the club’s Social Statute, which allows removal of members who damage the club’s image.

The filing’s main basis is Rubão’s conviction for administrative misconduct in a case involving Ariranha city hall. The ruling, later upheld by the São Paulo Court of Justice, found a fraudulent tender to hire a company he co-owns and payment of R$ 100,000 for services the court said were not delivered.

The court maintained the finding of impropriety, ordered full reimbursement to the public purse and a civil fine, but cut the ban on public contracts from 12 to four years. The authors note the decision is not yet final.

The request also references Operação Rei do Pix, launched by GAECO in June to probe suspected misuse of public funds in Catanduva. It alleges Rubão took part in a rigged tender with the city council through Unidade de Concurso e Treinamento Ltda. (UCT), which allegedly received public money without providing the services. A judge ordered R$ 4.59 million in his assets and accounts to be frozen.

The group points to the recent expulsions of former presidents Andrés Sanchez and Augusto Melo as precedents and urges the Deliberative Council to apply the same rigour.

Even so, the representation does not seek immediate punishment. It asks that Rubão be guaranteed full defence and the right to be heard during the Ethics Committee process, with the Deliberative Council formally investigating the facts before any decision on expulsion.
