Corinthians extend 30-year unbeaten run in Copa São Paulo

On the afternoon of this Saturday (3), Corinthians made its debut in the 2026 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. In a match at Estádio Zezinho Magalhães, in Jaú, Timãozinho faced Trindade from Goiás, and in a balanced game, the winning goal of 1-0 came only at the end of the second half, scored by Favela.

The victory helped the Alvinegro start well in the traditional youth tournament, earning their first points in the group, which also includes Luverdense and XV de Jaú. It also served to extend for another year a streak that has lasted over three decades: not losing in Copinha debuts.

The last time Corinthians was defeated under these conditions was 33 years ago, when, in the 1993 Copa São Paulo, the team was beaten 2-1 by Botafogo. Since then, the team boasts a record of 28 wins and only four draws in competition debuts, including routs like a 9-0 over Santos-PB in 2012 and a 7-1 against Cacerense-MT the previous year.

Moreover, this year's triumph was nothing less than the 12th consecutive for the People's Team when starting their campaign in a Copinha. This streak began in 2015, with a 3-1 victory over Guaicurus-MS, continuing with wins against Red Bull Bragantino (2-0 in 2016), Pinheiro-MA (6-0 in 2017), Corumbaense-MS (3-0 in 2018), Capital-TO (3-2 in 2019), Retrô (2-0 in 2020), Resende (2-1 in 2022), Zumbi-AL (4-0 in 2023), Ji-Paraná-RO (6-0 in 2024), and Gazin Porto Velho-RO (4-0 in 2025).

In their upcoming commitments for Group 8 of the current edition of the Copa São Paulo, Timão faces Luverdense this Tuesday (6), at 7:30 PM (Brasília time), and concludes their participation in the preliminary phase against XV de Jaú this Friday (9), at 6:15 PM.
