According to Globo.com, Corinthians failed to pay image rights on Thursday, leaving the men's first-team squad two months in arrears.

The June instalment, due on 20 July, was already outstanding. The club then missed the 20 August payment relating to July.

Each monthly image-rights bill is around R$ 10 million. The squad is also owed bonuses from the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Conmebol Libertadores.

The board’s expectation is to settle at least one of the overdue months on Monday.

The club is in a severe financial crisis and has struggled to meet routine obligations. It is barred from registering new players because of three transfer bans in force over debts totalling R$ 21.5 million.

August salaries were briefly delayed, then paid days later. Image rights typically make up a large share of players’ remuneration.
