Corinthians fall to Magnus again, settle for Paulista de Futsal runners-up

Corinthians Futsal returned to the court this Saturday (6th). In the game that decided the final of the São Paulo Championship in the category, the Alvinegro faced Magnus at the Sorocaba Arena and ended up being defeated by a score of 3 x 2. Having been defeated by the same score in the first leg, they ended up as runners-up.

After the bitter defeat, Corinthians returns to the court next Tuesday, December 9, to face Jaraguá in the first leg of the National Futsal League final. The match is scheduled for 9 PM at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium.

For the decisive match, coach Fernando Malafaia lined up Corinthians with a starting quintet of Lucas Oliveira, Marlon, Luisinho, Renatinho, and Rick. On the bench, Koji, Caio Barros, Lucas Martins, Luiz Brizzi, Edimar, Vandinho, Maicon, Igor Carioca, Israel, and Deives were available.

Even playing with the advantage gained in the first game, the Sorocaba team started by pressing Corinthians for much of the initial minutes and created several scoring chances. After much persistence, pivot Bruno Andrade opened the scoring. From that moment, Corinthians improved, began to control possession, and even created opportunities to seek an equalizer.

In the final stage, Timão increased the intensity and managed to reduce the score with goals from Deives and Maicon. However, by betting on the fly-goalkeeper and being exposed defensively, they ended up conceding the third goal, which decided the match and secured the title for Magnus.

With the result, the club from Parque São Jorge lost the opportunity to win its 11th state title — having previously won in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1995, 2009, 2019, and 2022. Still, the team remains alive in the race for the National Futsal League (LNF) trophy.
