Corinthians goalkeeper Nicole Ramos reflected on facing former club Atlético-MG after a winning start to the Brasileirão Feminino, and said expectations are high as the champions begin their title defence.
According to Meu Timao, Corinthians beat Atlético-MG on Friday at Arena MRV in Belo Horizonte, with Nicole starting in goal. She said the squad had prepared well and felt ready and excited for a strong campaign.
Nicole joined Corinthians in 2024 after a spell at Atlético Mineiro, yet never played at Arena MRV while with the Belo Horizonte side. That year she featured at SESC Venda Nova, and in 2025 Atlético competed in the second tier. Experiencing the new stadium at last felt special to her, having followed its construction.
A key figure in last season’s Brazilian title, she then helped deliver the 2025 Libertadores a little over a month later. The final finished 0-0 against Deportivo Cali of Colombia, and in the shootout she unsettled opponents and forced errors.
The triumph came with a setback, as Nicole sustained a finger fracture during the decider. After surgery she spent about four months out and missed the Club World Cup in London. She was on the bench in the Supercopa Feminina, then a concussion to Lelê in the Dérbi saw her reclaim the gloves for the most recent match.
Nicole also praised Leticia, describing her as perhaps one of the greatest Brazil has had, and said competition between two strong keepers helps her and the team.
With Nicole available to coach Lucas Piccinato, Corinthians host Fluminense on Friday 20 in round two at Neo Química Arena, kick-off 21:30.
