Corinthians marked their 116th anniversary on Tuesday as players, ex-players, rival clubs and sporting figures posted tributes across social media.

According to Globo.com, England’s Corinthian-Casuals, whose name inspired the Brazilian club founded in 1910, sent congratulations. Paris Saint-Germain did likewise through Marquinhos, a Parque São Jorge academy product, and rivals Palmeiras saluted the derby’s enduring significance.

From the current squad, Memphis Depay, at the club since September 2024, shared the birthday video and expressed pride in being Corinthians. Gabriel Paulista, Zakaria Labyad and Jesse Lingard also reposted the club’s message. Football executive Marcelo Paz said he was proud to be part of the club’s centenary story.

Hugo Souza, João Pedro Tchoca and Pedro Raul shared photos in the shirt, with the goalkeeper calling it an honour. Youth graduate Iago Machado noted he has spent 11 of those 116 years at the club. Women’s forward Andressa Alves and head coach Emily Lima spoke of the emotion and responsibility that come with representing Corinthians.

Former forward Neto recalled five years, 228 matches and 86 goals. Goalkeeper Cássio, now at Cruzeiro, said he was happy and honoured to have played his part. Basketball icon Hortência and Health Minister Alexandre Padilha also paid tribute, the latter referencing founders from Ambrósio to Bataglia and the Bom Retiro origins.
