Corinthians midfielder on Flamengo red, recalls Supercopa incident

Corinthians, with goals from defender Gabriel Paulista and forward Yuri Alberto, won the Supercopa do Brasil for the second time in its history by defeating Flamengo 2-0 at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília, on the afternoon of last Sunday (1st). After the match, midfielder Breno Bidon, one of the highlights of the game, spoke about Carrascal's sending off.

Near the end of the first half, the Colombian midfielder landed an elbow to the face of the Corinthians player. However, VAR was not working at the time of the incident and the teams went into halftime without a review. Upon returning for the second half, referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein went to the video referee and decided on the expulsion.

“I was there in the middle, he ended up running, I bumped into him, but it was just a football thing and then he threw an elbow there. I told everyone at halftime, I wanted it reviewed, because it wasn’t possible, unfortunately, at first, he (the referee) said he didn’t see the contact, I told the guys ‘impossible, I felt the elbow on my face’. So I knew something had happened, I even left cursing at halftime, but thank God, he changed his mind, they stopped to analyze it, and did what had to be done.”, said Timão’s number 7.

Breno Bidon also spoke about an incident that happened in the very first minute of the match, this time involving left-back Alex Sandro, who also hit the Corinthians player in the face with his arm. The referee listened to VAR, but there was no video review and the game continued.

“Very questionable, I think the referee didn’t send him off because it was the start of the game, he didn’t want to take on that responsibility, but there’s nothing to complain about, if he didn’t give it, the game goes on, we did our part, which was to leave here as champions. As always, we were doubted, we’re never the favorites, but that’s Corinthians, we’re never the favorites, but we always manage to get there. Thank God, my third year as a professional, my third title and we’re looking for more.”, the midfielder added.

The Alvinegro, now, after winning the Supercopa do Brasil against Flamengo in Brasília, will return to the field next Thursday (5th), at 8:30 pm (Brasília time), to face Capivariano at the Neo Química Arena, for the sixth round of the state championship.
