Corinthians have been ordered on appeal to pay damages and a pension until age 75 to former youth player Kauê Moreira de Souza, who retired after a right knee injury.

According to Globo.com, the eighth panel of the Regional Labour Court of the second Region, TRT-2, modified parts of the first-instance ruling but maintained substantial compensation.

Judges increased moral damages from R$ 50,000 to R$ 200,000 and set material damages at the equivalent of 12 months of his 2021 salary of R$ 12,000, totalling R$ 144,000.

The pension was reduced from a full salary to 15 percent of R$ 12,000 per month, R$ 1,800, and extended until he turns 75. In the first ruling it had been set at a full salary until age 35.

The term reflects male life expectancy in the IBGE mortality table. The club must pay the pension in a single lump sum.

Moreira de Souza did not play for the senior team. Corinthians intends to appeal to the Superior Labour Court.
