Corinthians are seeking an agreement with Nike to fix the launch date of a kit marking 50 years since the Invasão Corintiana, when about 70,000 fans travelled to Rio de Janeiro for the 1976 Brasileiro semi-final against Fluminense.
According to Globo.com, the club’s marketing department has held meetings with the supplier in recent weeks, but no decision has been reached.
Inside the club, the early April trip to the Maracanã to face Fluminense in the ninth round of the Brasileirão is viewed as the ideal debut, given the same venue and opponent as 1976.
Nike has not guaranteed the collection will be ready by that date, as it follows a European calendar and typically delivers its range in May.
Further meetings between Corinthians and Nike are expected in the coming days.
The primary strip will feature a white shirt with subtle black detailing and the 1976 crest, while the second shirt will restore the traditional black and white stripes.
Goalkeeper shirts are expected in black, grey and purple. Nike had not responded before publication. In 1976, Corinthians beat Fluminense on penalties, then finished runners-up after losing to Internacional in the final.
