Corinthians have asked Memphis Depay to explain a music video released on Friday that features references to the club and his contract saga.

The track, titled Don't Panic, revisits recent months for the number 10 and includes messages to the board. Memphis told the club the footage was shot earlier and not linked to protests, including one at Parque São Jorge on Saturday morning.

The club is taking contractual and legal steps and has not ruled out a fine. It also reiterated respect for the institution, Parque São Jorge and the crest that symbolises the club's history and support.

In the final scene, the social headquarters appears in flames as the forward watches from a car. He also alludes to a supposed rift with a vice-president and to being dubbed boss by fans and team-mates.

Second vice-president Armando Mendonça, a vocal opponent of any renewal, replied after the release. "Toquinho wrote a song for Corinthians, Vinícius de Moraes wrote a beautiful song for Helô Pinheiro, The Girl from Ipanema. Corinthians have got a song from a rapper who was hired to play football and will be held to account for it," he told ESPN on Saturday.
