Corinthians are on course to end the current transfer window as the only Série A side yet to announce a signing, with the market closing on 11, according to Meu Timao.
The window opened on 20 July, by which point the club were already under a first FIFA transfer ban imposed on 21 May. Since then they have been hit with two further FIFA bans, one later settled, plus a sanction from the CBF’s National Dispute Resolution Chamber, the CNRD. The three active penalties total R$ 21.9 million.
At no stage were Corinthians able to register players in this window. Targets discussed internally included forward Wesley, who joined Cruzeiro because the club could not register him, and midfielder Arthur Melo, later announced by Santos.
While Corinthians remain inactive, rivals have been busy. Mirassol lead the tally with eight additions, followed by Botafogo on seven and Cruzeiro on six.
Despite financial constraints and no new faces, Corinthians are into the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals against Estudiantes of Argentina on 9 and 16 September. In the Brasileiro they sit 10th and are on a run of three straight defeats.
