Corinthians Sporting Director Reveals Lazio Offer for Brazilian Striker

Corinthians sporting director Marcelo Paz claimed that Lazio have tabled a bid for their striker Yuri Alberto.

Lazio Submit Offer for Yuri Alberto

The first nine days of the January transfer window have been absolutely hectic for the Aquile, who have already sold Taty Castellanos to West Ham and Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce, and brought in Petar Ratkov from RB Salzburg and Kenneth Taylor from Ajax. Lazio president Claudio Lotito also promised more new signings, and one of their targets reportedly resides in São Paulo.

In an interview with TNT Sports Brazil, Paz revealed that Corinthians have received an offer from Lazio for Alberto, but it fell below the Brazilian club’s price tag.

The offer (from Lazio, ed.) has arrived, yes, but it is not yet an offer that satisfies Corinthians. The club is expecting a higher figure. The proposal is on president Osmar’s desk and I have had the chance to look at it. I won’t disclose the numbers here because that is the president’s prerogative, but I can confirm that an offer was made and that it still does not meet Corinthians’ requirements, given the player’s stature and the importance he has within our squad.

Yuri Alberto’s Background

Alberto is a youth product of Santos who also had spells at Internacional and Zenit, before joining Corinthians in 2022. The 24-year-old is considered one of the most prolific scorers in the Brazilian league. He has thus far netted 76 goals in his 202 appearances for the Timão.

Lazio’s January Priorities

Having already replaced Castellanos with Ratkov, most observers are expecting Lazio to address other roles, mainly a right-footed central midfielder who can be Guendouzi’s heir, and a left winger to serve as Mattia Zaccagni’s understudy. But as La Lazio Siamo Noi puts it, the Biancocelesti’s interest in Alberto could signal the end of Boulaye Dia’s stint in the Italian capital.

Boulaye Dia on his Way Out?

Lazio will sign the Senegalese at the end of the season for €10 million following a two-year loan from Salernitana, and they’ll be happy to sell him for a similar figure, but he doesn’t appear to have a market at the moment.
