Hugo Souza, Rodrigo Garro and Kaio César have been named in CONMEBOL’s Libertadores team of the week after Corinthians’ latest outing.
According to Meu Timao, the trio starred in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Estudiantes. Garro released Kaio César to score past goalkeeper Muslera, then Hugo Souza preserved the point with a late stop.
Corinthians had the joint-most inclusions alongside Fluminense, both with three. Palmeiras and Flamengo provided two apiece, while Estudiantes completed the XI.
The recognition capped a notable day for Hugo Souza, who was called up to Brazil’s squad just hours before kick-off for the next FIFA window between late September and early October.
Garro moved clear at the top of this year’s Libertadores assist chart on five. Kaio César also ended a run of 12 games without a goal.
Attention now turns to the return leg at Neo Química Arena next Wednesday at 21:30. Before that, Corinthians visit Flamengo in the Brasileirão on Sunday at 17:30 at the Maracanã in the 27th round.
