Corinthians attacking midfielder Zakaria Labyad has undergone reconstruction surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, then shared a post-operation photo with Memphis and friends.
According to Meu Timao, Memphis did not have his Corinthians contract renewed, and after strong pressure from supporters the board have since met the Dutch forward again.
Labyad captioned his post in Arabic, expressing praise to God and gratitude for the procedure and the start of his recovery.
He was hurt after twisting his knee late in the first half against Athletico-PR last Thursday, a 0-0 draw in the 21st round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The match also saw injuries to Yuri Alberto, with a right hamstring issue, and Rodrigo Garro, who has since recovered and featured on Sunday against Internacional in the Copa do Brasil.
The Neo Química Arena pitch drew heavy criticism from coach Fernando Diniz and players Raniele and André Ramalho. World Sports, which maintain the surface, set a timeframe of four weeks for the field to be in ideal condition.
With Labyad sidelined for the rest of the season, Corinthians’ injury list has grown. The Moroccan is expected to have his contract renewed with Timão, as provided for under Brazilian law.
