After joining Lazio in the summer, the agent of Davide Frattesi revealed that his Inter Milan departure was almost inevitable in the summer.
The midfielder began his career in the Biancocelesti’s youth ranks, before making the crosstown move to Roma. After enjoying his Serie A breakthrough at Sassuolo, Inter splashed €35 million to secure his services in 2023. However, the Italian international played second fiddle to Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Piotr Zielinski, and Petar Sucic.

Frattesi was considered a super-sub during his two campaigns under Simone Inzaghi, and his role further diminished under Cristian Chivu.
In his recent appearance on the Copli da Maestro podcast (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Italian agent Giuseppe Riso explained that his client had to leave the Serie A champions after becoming increasingly miserable.
The deal came about because, with him playing so little, he could no longer stay at Inter. He’s a golden boy, he really has an incredible heart: I no longer saw him happy; I saw him sad and lacking energy. A few transfer windows earlier, we had already tried to do something, but Inter didn’t want to let him go. This year Lazio came in.
Riso added that Frattesi had other options on the table, but only wanted a return to his original club, Lazio, while noting that Gennaro Gattuso played an instrumental role in convincing the player to join.
There could have been something different as well, but he chose Lazio. He needed to feel like a protagonist again. The best thing I can tell you is that he video-called me last night and had a huge smile on his face. Those are the satisfactions. Lotito is a genius in my eyes, but dealing with him is always complicated. And the situation at Lazio is never easy either. But they wanted him at all costs, and so did Gattuso. We all did a good job of getting the deal over the line.
Frattesi enjoyed a splendid start to his Lazio experience, scoring in the club’s first three Serie A games against Bologna, Genoa, and Udinese. He is now considered an automatic starter for the Aquile, and he remains a key player in the Italian national team.
On Monday, the 27-year-old scored in the 4-1 win over Turkiye, so Roberto Mancini could be tempted to confirm him in his starting lineup in Friday’s big UEFA Nations League showdown against France in Paris.
