Coutinho leaves Vasco after contract termination, winless against Flamengo across nine derbies | OneFootball

Coutinho has terminated his contract with Vasco, leaving without a win over Flamengo. The player said in an Instagram post that he had ended his deal with the São Januário club.

Across his Brazilian spells, he faced Flamengo nine times from 2010 to 2026, with six Flamengo wins and three draws. He registered no assists in those fixtures.

His only goal in the clássico came in 2024 in a 1-1 draw. The most recent meeting ended 1-0 to Flamengo in 2026.

Coutinho cited mental fatigue and thanked Vasco, but did not reveal his next club. There are rumours that LA Galaxy could move for him in Major League Soccer. He could one day return for a third stint.

Without him, the derby could be staged in the Carioca final if Vasco beat Fluminense and Flamengo beat Madureira. Before that, Flamengo have the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana on Thursday 19 against Lanús at 21:30 Brasília time.
