FLW's Coventry Fan Pundit dismisses talk of Coventry City potentially targeting Reading's 106-point Championship record points tally.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Coventry City have enjoyed a magnificent opening couple of months to the campaign, with the Sky Blues sitting clear at the top-of-the-table in the Championship after a brilliant run of form.
Frank Lampard’s side, who lost in the second tier play-off semi-finals to eventual winners Sunderland last season, are the only unbeaten team in the division with seven victories and four draws thus far.
They are also setting a remarkable scoring pace with 31 goals netted in those 11 games, with the second-highest scorers in the division — Bristol City and Hull City — back on 19 goals.
Only Middlesbrough have conceded fewer goals than the eight that Coventry have let in, and with the all-round record-breaking pace, some impressive coaching and a deep squad – Cov supporters will be dreaming of the Premier League already.

Back in the 2005/06 Championship season, Reading set the all-time record points tally for the second division as the Royals amassed 106 points from their 46 matches.
Coventry are currently on course to fall just shy of it based off current metrics, with their points per game at 2.27 putting them on 104 points by the end of the campaign, but the prospect of it may have entered the minds of some fans after a recent five-match winning streak - in which they have scored 16 goals.
However, FLW’s Coventry Fan Pundit, Chris Deez, believes that breaking the record would be a step too far – and he isn’t even interested in City doing so really.
Chris told FLW: “My heart says yes, but my head says no. As any Cov fan would be able to tell you, we are our own worst enemy.
“If anyone was going to ruin this run of form, all of these incredible stats that we keep achieving or these records keep breaking; if anyone is going to ruin that, then it is Coventry City.
“I’m absolutely thrilled that we went away to Portsmouth and got a 2-1 win. I didn’t think we were going to get anything there. I would have been happy with a draw before the game.
“They caused problems, Blackburn caused problems when they came here. We aren’t playing teams off the pack. We’re just defending well, and we’re scoring a lot of goals.
“We aren’t playing incredibly. We aren’t prime Barcelona all of a sudden. There are still issues, and we are still inviting a lot of pressure.
“It is only a matter of time before it ends. I don’t want to be a pessimist but I just don’t see it lasting for the whole season.
“We are not going to be 106 points, like Reading’s all-time record. I just don’t see that’s happening, and I’m not really bothered about it happening as long as we get promoted. That’s all that matters.
“We’ve got Watford at home, Wrexham away, Sheffield United at home, Stoke away and West Brom at home. Out of the next five games, if we can come out of that with at least nine points from those games, then I’d be pretty happy with that. Two wins and three draws.
“I don’t think that, at the minute, there is any team we should fear. There are very, very good teams and there are, despite our league position, better teams in the league than us.
“The way we’re playing and the belief and the fans getting behind the team, and whatever (Frank) Lampard has instilled into the team is absolutely unbelievable.
“He’s turned (Brandon) Thomas-Asante into an absolute machine. Matt Grimes was an inspired signing; I honestly think one of the best signings in our entire history.
“We’ve still got the lovely problem of having (Jack) Rudoni to come back from injury. How do we fit him into the team at the minute? (Tatsuhiro) Sakamoto didn’t even start (against Portsmouth). Haji Wright didn’t start.
“It’s crazy. We have so much depth throughout the squad and so much quality throughout the squad.
“Obviously, injuries will be a big factor. We aren’t going to go through the whole season without any injuries. Rudoni has missed the last five games.
“106 points would be lovely, but I’m not interested in it at all. Give me 90 points and promotion as that is all that matters.”

Both at Derby County and at Everton, and sometimes even at Chelsea, there has been a view that Frank Lampard could be a streaky manager.
The highs of his teams were great, but the lows would often come out of nowhere and persist for a time, and that lack of consistency has held his managerial career back thus far.
It could well be that learning and experience has helped Lampard with that and Coventry will be the beneficiaries of a newfound fluency and form that sees them continue to trample all in their way.
However, if it was to happen again, then Coventry supporters will have to brace themselves for a slight wobble.
The good thing is, they are giving themselves the opportunity to have a slight blip and remain in an excellent position to win the title, let alone achieve promotion back to the Premier League — Breaking the 106-point record would be an added bonus, but the second tier is so unpredictable that it's hard to see it happening.
