Coventry City are poised to snap up young Manchester City defender Stephen Mfuni to boost their options at the back, according to journalist Alex Crook.
Frank Lampard’s men lost their Premier League opener on Friday night and will need to bounce back quickly following wins for fellow newly promoted sides Hull City and Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Coventry are keen on continuing to strengthen before the transfer window closes and their focus has been drawn to the Etihad for an option.
They have moved quickly and are set to sign England Under-19 centre-back Mfuni from Manchester City.
The 18-year-old came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and had a loan stint last season at Watford.

It is unclear what the terms of the deal are that will take Mfuni to Coventry.
He will add to Lampard’s signings this summer as Coventry look to put up a fight to survive in the Premier League following promotion.
The Sky Blues recently signed striker Sidiki Cherif from Turkish giants Fenerbahce and agreed to a substantial 17.5 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Cherif is a big investment from Coventry, with Fenerbahce banking a fixed fee of €27m for the striker, along with €3m in add-ons.

Coventry started with Ellis Simms, who is a target for Wolves, up front away at Arsenal on Friday evening.
He was replaced by Taiwo Awoniyi during the course of the game, but the attacking change did little to trouble the Gunners as they cruised to a 3-0 win on the night.
Coventry are next in action away at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday evening in the EFL Cup, before they then play host to fellow Premier League new boys Hull City next weekend.
It remains to be seen if Mfuni will feature in that game against the Tigers.
