Cruzeiro have confirmed the loan signing of left-back Matías Viña from Flamengo until the end of the season. The club said in a statement that the Uruguayan joins with an option to buy set at $4.5 million.
At current rates the clause equates to about R$ 23 million. Viña had been on loan at River Plate, who had already removed him from their plans.
Cruzeiro will not cover Viña’s wages before December, with Flamengo’s agreement covering that period. Flamengo required River Plate to pay the full salary through December to end the previous loan, with River forwarding the funds to Flamengo, who then pay the player.
Viña has not played for River Plate since May 2026, his last match was a 1-0 win over Rosario Central in the Argentine Championship semi-final. He had been sidelined for several months.
Flamengo paid around R$ 43 million to sign Viña from Roma in early 2024. He signed a contract running until the end of 2028.
For Flamengo, he made 32 appearances, scoring one goal with two assists. Despite limited minutes, he was part of squads that won the Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, Libertadores, Supercopa do Brasil and the Carioca.
