River Plate make second attempt to return Matías Viña to Flamengo | OneFootball

River Plate have tried for a second time to return Matías Viña to Flamengo, but the Rio club are standing firm on their terms.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo would accept the defender back only if River pay his wages in full until December, when the loan expires. The Uruguay international's representatives are exploring options to avoid him going without games for the rest of the year.

River first sought to end the loan during the World Cup, and Flamengo set the same condition then. The financial stance has not changed.

Viña has not played for River since May 2026, his last outing a 1-0 win over Rosario Central in the Argentine league semi-final. He has been on the fringes for months.

Flamengo signed Viña from Roma for about R$ 43 million in early 2024, handing him a deal through to the end of 2028. He sustained a serious knee injury in August 2024 and missed 10 months.

He has made 32 appearances for Flamengo, scoring one goal with two assists. In that spell he won the Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, Libertadores, Supercopa do Brasil and the Carioca.

Flamengo now turn to Thursday 10, when Leonardo Jardim's side visit Independiente del Valle at 21:30 Brasília time at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, the first leg of the Libertadores quarter-finals.
