Dean Henderson will be sidelined until after the international break with an ankle injury, according to NY Times.
The issue kept the 29-year-old out of Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat by Ipswich Town and he is likely to withdraw from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for their three UEFA Nations League group matches later this month.
He will also miss Thursday’s Europa League opener against Lech Poznan and the Premier League trip to Leeds United on Sunday, September 20. In his absence, second-choice goalkeeper Walter Benitez will deputise.
Pierre Sage said Henderson has managed the problem for the past month after being hurt in the pre-season defeat by Freiburg. He added that the keeper has trained little but performed well, yet the pain is currently too much to risk. The manager expects him to return for Nottingham Forest on October 11.
Sage described centre-back Jaydee Canvot’s omission against Ipswich as a sporting decision after struggles across the opening four league games, when Palace conceded 11 goals. He previously left out Evann Guessand and Dwight McNeil for the 3-2 win over Fulham, unhappy with their substitute cameos in the 4-1 defeat by Manchester City a week earlier. He wants more from those players and is looking for a response in training on Monday.
