Crystal Palace discussing new deal for Dean Henderson | OneFootball

Crystal Palace are in discussions with goalkeeper Dean Henderson over a new contract, according to NY Times.

Henderson, 29, has two years left on a five-year deal signed after a £20million move from Manchester United in 2023. He displaced Sam Johnstone as No 1, with Johnstone joining Wolverhampton Wanderers for £10m two years ago.

He is managing an ankle injury sustained around the final pre-season friendly and is expected back after the international break to face Nottingham Forest. Forest had an approach to sign him rejected by Palace during the summer window.

Henderson’s FA Cup final penalty save from Omar Marmoush resonated, but his recent displays have been decisive too, including the 3-2 win at Fulham last week. He was key to Pierre Sage’s first victory, making several excellent saves.

Extending his stay would reinforce stability in a side short on leaders, with Henderson providing presence and assurance. It would also reduce the risk of needing to replace a cornerstone position.

Last week, Pierre Sage hoped Ismaila Sarr would return to training on Monday. Supporters have bristled at his wish to leave and his absence, and Sage said the winger would need time to digest the club’s refusal to sanction a summer move.

As with Jean-Philippe Mateta, forgiveness may follow if Sarr reproduces the form that won last season’s player of the year. With the window shut, the question is whether he can focus on playing, because despite five goals in the past two games, he is still missed.
