Lyon are said to have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace for Malick Fofana, according to L’Équipe.

The 21-year-old Belgian had travelled to England to sign for Sunderland after OL and the Black Cats agreed a €35m package including bonuses, but he is now set to head to south London instead.

The change follows a morning phone call between Fofana and Eagles manager Pierre Sage, under whom he previously played in the Rhône region.

Lyon had targeted €40m. Palace are understood to be offering around €39m, with elements still to be finalised.

Caution remains. The situation could shift in the coming hours, with Sunderland and Arsenal yet to decide whether to withdraw completely from the race.
