Santos drew 1-1 with San Lorenzo at El Nuevo Gasómetro in Buenos Aires in the Copa Sudamericana group stage. After the match, Cuca explained starting Mayke and gave an update on Igor Vinícius.

There had been an expectation that Igor Vinícius would start in Argentina, but he began on the bench and featured only late on. According to Diario Do Peixe, he sustained a small oedema in his right quadriceps in early April, had already returned to action, and missed Bahia only through suspension.

Cuca said the full-back is still short of full fitness, so the staff limited his minutes. He noted training is closed, the player is progressing, and he logged 15 minutes in Buenos Aires. They will assess how he responds to see if he is in better shape for the next game.

Explaining Mayke’s inclusion, Cuca judged the full-back’s display to be tactically strong. He acknowledged two early errors when trying to dribble out from the back, but felt the overall performance was good.

The draw leaves Santos on two points from nine and bottom of Group D in the competition. Attention now turns to the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Santos visit Palmeiras at Allianz Parque on Saturday 2 at 18:30.
